Presentation Title:
Lunar Exploration Project in South Korea
Abstract:
Lunar exploration is not only a stepping-stone to further space exploration, but also a “technology demonstration” that symbolizes the national development and pride. Now in 21st century, space technology in Asia is developing expeditiously. Number of countries in Asia are highly competitive in lunar exploration; Japan has launched the lunar probe Kaguya(Selene) in 2007, India’s lunar orbiter Chandrayaan-1 was launched in 2008 and discovered the existence of Helium-3 in the Moon, and China became the 3rd country that has landed on the Moon in 2013. Meanwhile, South Korea is also stepping up in the development of space launching vehicle and lunar orbiter as the government increased the financial support for the research; more than 70% of citizens responded positive about this national investment. In this talk, I will briefly skim through South Korea’s previous performance in space technology development, and discuss the prospect of lunar exploration project in South Korea, along with the current state of affairs.

KSEA Central PA Chapter
KSEA Central PA Chapter is holding a monthly multidisciplinary seminar series in 2016. We urge you to attend this seminar and present your own research for many reasons. First, this seminar series will offer great opportunities to mingle with people in the Korean academic community in State College on a regular basis, to network with professionals from different backgrounds, and to find collaboration opportunities. Second, as a student speaker, you will get systematic feedback from audience on your presentation and technical communication skills through clear rubric. At the end of each academic year, the best student presenter will be awarded a ‘student presentation award’ and a gift card through a ‘Student Presentation Competition,’ which will be an excellent addition to your resume.
